On June 11, 2026, Ruhr University Bochum welcomed interested school students as part of “InsideRUB.” The event offered insights into various engineering degree programmes, including mechanical engineering, civil and environmental engineering, sales engineering and product management, and materials science. The Institute for Materials also presented a varied programme with illustrative experiments. Visitors explored the role of modern materials in technology and everyday life, for example through light microscopy and mobile X-ray analysis of jewellery, 3D-printed knives, and bicycle components. Additional highlights included turbine blades made from high-temperature-resistant materials and a live demonstration of the shape memory effect.
