On February 1, 2022, a new joint research project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) was launched with the title EnerGieeffziENtE KreiSlaufwirtschaft krItischer RohStoffe (GENESIS). A team of a total of eleven partners from research and industry is using the example of high-performance magnets and high-performance steels to develop methods for recovering the critical raw materials they contain. The elements addressed include neodymium, tungsten and cobalt, with the aim of reducing dependence on critical raw materials and saving resources and energy in industrial processes.
